Katie (Owner)
Hi! I’m Katie, owner of Coconut Yoga. My journey with yoga started in 2005 in Chicago, a city I had grown to love after moving here in 2000 and a city I later learned is one of the most vibrant, well-educated yoga communities in the world. Previously a trained classical ballet dancer, training first in my hometown ballet studio in Brighton, Michigan and then broadening into pre-professional training programs and performing with the Milwaukee Ballet Company, I formed an early, undeniable love of movement and expression through dance and music.
As I learned my way into all that is yoga, I found a new, unexpected love for a practice which transcends the physical movement. After many years taking in all of the wonderful teachers that Chicago has to offer, I decided to take it a step further and deepen my practice, earning my 200hr certification from Yogaview and training under a phenomenal group of teachers, Amy Owen, Claire Mark, Quinn Kearney and Sarah Hildenbrand. In 2017, I set out on one of my most exciting adventures yet, with a goal to open a lovable space where I could share yoga with others.
In my classes, I strive to help my students find their connection between breath and movement. I believe in using the alignment of the yoga poses to help students create a deeper awareness of what’s going on in their physical self, and most importantly to create a space which enables you to do more than you thought achievable, and to ultimately find the interconnectedness which is the practice of yoga.
I sincerely hope you enjoy all that Coconut has to offer.
With much love,
Katie
